If someone were to ask Jasmine Santos to describe the last few years of her life with a single word, it would definitely be a four-letter one.
After seventeen years—and countless broken bones and broken promises—she knows her window to compete in figure skating is coming to a close.
But when the offer of a lifetime comes in from an arrogant idiot she’s spent the last decade dreaming about pushing in the way of a moving bus, Jasmine might have to reconsider everything.
Including Ivan Lukov.
I really don’t know where to start with this review, there are so many things that need to have their spotlight, but I can’t pick one moment that I love and adore the most, there are just to many, and it’s hard to pick one. Let’s start with the fact that this is my first buddy read,(with Milica’s Bookshelf) and that this is my second book by Mariana Zapata, and I can say that Mariana easily became one of my favorite author after reading The Wall Of Winnipeg And Me. Her stories are addictive, both books are my favorite, but I think From Lukov With Love kinda trumps my love for The Wall Of Winnipeg And Me, but not much.
FROM LUKOV WITH LOVE is a story about following your dreams and working hard towards achieving those dreams. The theme of this book is enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, and those types of books are kinda my favorite. I really don’t have anything bad to say about this book, I can’t because I can’t find any flaws. The story is well-paced, beautifully written, the characters are developed nicely and the chemistry between characters is very evident. I really really love this story and the characters. Really this book left me speechless, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. This book left me happy and so in love, and I can’t wait to read more book Mariana.
Let me be honest at first, I liked Ivan, I didn’t love him, but liked him. But slowly with every chapter, I fell more and more in love with him, the more I learned about him, the more I loved him. Ivan, at first is a very mysterious person, we don’t know much about him, we only know the things Jasmine knows about him, but together with Jasmine, we learned more about him. About his private life that he keeps hidden from his public, we learn about his huge love for Jasmine, we learn thing that Jasmine didn’t know. We learned that even when they bicker like little kids, that Ivan was very protective of Jasmine. With ever passing chapter we learn how much Jasmine means to him, and how much he loves her, appreciates her and cares for her.Even though he seems cocky,he isn’t conceited, or self-centered, he’s caring, hard-working and loves teasing Jasmine and there so many sides to him. He understands Jasmine, and he sometimes sees himself in her, he went through almost same struggles as her and he knows how hard Jasmine works to be the best at her craft, even when some people are against it. He understands her because he does the same thing every day.
“You’ve been in my life for thirteen years. How could you think I don’t care about you? We fuck around with each other because we both like it. Because there’s nobody else we can fuck around with that can handle it.”
JASMINE is a hardworking and a very family oriented person. I fell in love with Jasmine the moment I met her. The part that drew me to her the most that she’s loyal and loves her family, but she struggles with expressing her love, she sometimes takes them for granted. But beneath the hard exterior. and bad ass attitude, she hides a heart made of gold, that holds so much love for the she cares the most about.
You either love her or hate her. She’s just an amazing person all around. She’s completely dedicated to things she loves, she’s dedicated to her dreams. When she was a little girl she knew she wanted to be a figure skater, and she dedicated her life to skating. She has been in figure skating for as long as she can remember, but being twenty-six and without a partner, the thought of quitting crosses her mind, but Jasmine isn’t a quitter, so when the chance to skate professionally again comes her way, she immediately accepts, the only problem is that she has to skate together with a person that she can’t stand, Ivan Lukov, even though her best friend is his sister and that they have known each since they were teenagers, the loathing between them stayed, even when they grew up. But if she wants to win a medal, she has always wanted, she has to compromise and work together with Lukov, to achieve her dream. So when Ivan suggest that they become friends, she dumbfounded, because how can they friends, when for so many years, they said so many cruel words to one another. But the more she learns about him and the more time she spends with him, she slowly falls in love with him, and she realizes that they are more alike then she thought.
“You are who you are in life, and you either live that time trying to bend yourself to make other people happy, or… you don’t.”
I freaking love the banter between Iva and Jasmine, they have so much chemistry between them even when their fighting. they often hurt each other with words, and they sometimes make feel safer than they felt before. they allow themselves to be open to each other, to show the weakness, their dark thought. They help each other and in the end, they can lean on each other for support. Even thought they were enemies, (that’s a strong word for it) in the end they became best friends, not just best friends, but lovers also. When they finally get together, you can easily see how much Ivan craves Jasmine, and you can see that Jasmine feels the same. I really love Jasmine and Ivan as friends but I also loved them as lovers. Ivan cares and loves Jasmine, above all else Jasmine also loves Ivan. Mariana easily made me fall in love with them. What can I say, they are very likable characters.
“If I had to choose anyone to help me bury a body, eat dinner with, or watch television with, it would be you, every time for everything.”
FROM LUKOV WITH LOVE is a standalone, but it’s in the same universe as Dear Aaron but you don’t have to read it to fully enjoy From Lukov With Love. But you can read however you like. All I can say, fans enemies-to-lovers and slow burn this is perfect book for you and I really hope that ypou’ll read it because you will make you laugh, and will make you fall in love with it’s story and characters. So I highly recommend this book.
Mariana Zapata began writing love stories soon after she learned how to spell. She probably shouldn’t admit that she started sneaking romance novels from her aunt’s bookshelves way before she was old enough to even understand what it meant when a man flipped up a woman’s skirt. (Don’t tell her mom.) She is a New York Times and USA Today Best Seller, and reached #7 on Amazon’s Author Ranking in 2016. Her book The Wall of Winnipeg and Me was a #1 Amazon Overall Best Seller, and was chosen as a 2016 Goodreads Choice Award nominee and also included on Amazon’s Best Books of 2016 for Romance. Wait for It reached #2 on the Amazon Overall Best Seller list and stayed in the top 100 for six weeks; it was chosen as a 2017 Goodreads Choice Award nominee in the Romance category. Dear Aaron was a top 10 Amazon Overall Best Seller and stayed in the top 100 for six weeks.
Mariana is a native Texan living in a small town in Colorado with her husband and two beloved (and emotionally manipulative) Great Danes, Dorian and Kaiser. When she’s not pretending to write, she’s reading. You can usually find her burning somewhat edible experiments in the kitchen or cracking jokes at the expense of her family members.
