Prelude in the American Gods series.
Young. Wealthy. Elite. Attractive. The gentlemen’s secret society at Yale was filled with them.
And Nathaniel Radcliffe, the bane of my existence, was one of them.
As the right hand of the American Gods, he was conceited and arrogant. A dangerously handsome man in a tailored custom suit and shiny black oxford loafers.
The classroom was our battlefield. We made a sport out of arguing and debating, ready to do anything in order to win over the other.
Deadly opponents, deadlier minds.
I’d sworn I’d never give him the upper hand, until…
The secret I’ve been hiding for the last three years?
He just discovered it… and now he has all the power.
All books by R. Scarlett easily became my favorite books the moment I read. I can honestly say that I’ve read all of her books more than once. Since R. Scarlett is known for her paranormal romance novels, I really didn’t know what to expect from Filthy Gods, I was completely surprised by the book. I realized when I finished Filthy Gods that Rebecca is multitalented, and that if she wanted she could write any genre she wishes. Because she showed everyone with this book, that she could write in any genre she wants.
FILTHY GODS is a prequel to the American Gods Series. The actual theme of this book is one of my favorite themes, and it’s enemies to lovers.
FILTHY GODS is about falling in love, even if it’s with the person you dislike very much. While Juliette dislikes Nathaniel so much, all Nathaniel wants is to bend Juliette over and show her who’s the boss.
Nathaniel is a man who gets what he wants and has the whole world under his feet, well he has everything expect Juliette. She’s the one thing he wanted since the moment he saw her, that he couldn’t get. But doesn’t stop him from making Juliette notice him even though it’s by annoying the hell out of her, and making her hate him. Even though he knows that Juliette can’t stand him, that doesn’t stop him pursuing and making her know that she’s his. What I learned about Nathaniel in this book, is that he’s fiercely possessive and that goes out of his way to protect Juliette and his closest friends, and that he fiercely in love with Juliette, and has considered Juliette as his since the moment he saw her. At first Nathaniel annoyed me so much, but very quickly he became my favorite character. And I hope that I will see more of him in the upcoming books, maybe even get another book for him and Juliette.
“I had agreed to a summer affair with my boss’s son and biggest rival. A deal with the enemy”
Juliette is a go getter. She works hard for the things she wants. Coming from a poor background won’t stop her from succeeding in the world of the rich, that’s only if her worst enemy keeps his nose out of her business. But when Nathaniel learns about her past, she makes a deal with the devil himself to keep her past out of the limelight. And the deal consists of her doing everything her enemy says. She promised herself that last thing she will do is fall in love with the devil, but her heart has other ideas. She goes from hating his guts to falling completely in love with him, to the point where she would do anything to protect him and their relationship. So when someone decides to use her weakness against her, she does what she thinks it’s best. But she couldn’t be more wrong. I love Juliette from the beginning til the very end. She made me laugh, and cry in joy. I will repeat myself again, I really hope that we will get another book about Juliette and Nathaniel.
“The only thing I was afraid of was my own mortality in front of him. Gods fell in love with mortals and demolished them piece-by-piece.”
The relationship between Juliette and Nathaniel is filled with lust, passion and love. The fact that Juliette doesn’t like Nathaniel, makes her affair, more passionate and intoxicating. I don’t know how to explain it but I love the whole dynamic between Juliette and Nathaniel, and the chemistry between them is very evident and very much shows how much they care about each other. I just need to see more of them and American Gods. I easily fell in love with these two and their story.
“All I had to do was arouse you with my words and you became undone.”
Rebecca is wonderful author who knows how to bring her characters to life, she just makes me want to read more of her books, and re-read them a couple of times, because they never get boring even after reading it a couple of times. FILTHY GODS is a standalone and if you only read Rebecca’s because they are paranormal romance, I would highly recommend that you give this book a chance because Rebecca will completely amaze you with her writing. So enjoy.
From studying English literature and minoring in History, she loves losing herself in a good book and snuggling up to her Brittany Spaniel.
When she’s not writing or plotting a delicious novel, she can be found hanging out with friends and family, going on long car rides, exploring small towns, or watching reruns of Sex and the City.
