BOOK REVIEW | War & Peace Duet by K. Webster

this-is-war-baby-front-onlyWhen I received the ARC for this book, I was pretty scared to read it. I would go to the instagram of the author and there would be a lot of pictures, where she wrote things like the darkest book K. Webster has ever written. The first book I read from her was Dirty Ugly Toy (also a dark romance, but not so dark as I thought I would be) and the second book I read from her was This Is War, Baby.. and I can tell you I was scared as fuck to read this book. When I started, it was okay..boyfriend and girlfriend foreplay, okay that’s nice. Then freaking BAM! Shit hit the fan and I was left biting my fingernails, hoping Baylee would survive the nightmare, and poor Brandon.  It scared the freaking shit out of me.

“This can’t be happening.
Not to me.”

Baylee getting kidnapped by her father’s best friend Gabe. He took away her life in three second. Everything she held dear lost in three fucking seconds.

“Now, say goodbye to your bedroom and your pussy-ass boyfriend. You’ll never see them again.”

Baylee was a normal 17 year old girl, a virgin with a boyfriend she loved and friends who adored her. And now, she’s a toy. Used, raped, tortured and brainwashed. She lost everything dear. Nothing was the same anymore. Gabe, her captor and the friend of her father, stoled everything from her, her life, her virginity and her freedom. He used her and abused her. He did unholy things to her (POOR CUCUMBERS, POOR CUCUMBERS, I will never be able to look at cucumbers the same way I did before.), train her to be a perfect little slave and all I wanted to do is throw up, that man was so fucking crazy. Then two weeks later, he sold her to the highest bidder with a promise he will come back for her, and make her his. Possibility of being sold to man worse then Gabe is real.

“He’s the monster in my life – but he’s the one I know – the one I’m familiar with.”

Baylee finds herself being owned by a young gorgeous rich man who has a slew of mental issues and is in a prison of his fears and obsessions.

“For some reason, I don’t obsess over numbers and germs and patterns. Each time you open your mouth, I’m fixated on your words. I’m drawn to the way you say them. When I’m around you, I don’t obsess over my problems because I obsess over you.”

I fell for War immediately. There was something different about him. I have never read about such a character. His obsessions and his fears break a reader’s heart and his POV is realistically and perfectly, brilliantly done. War was something else. He was unlike any captor I’ve read before. I’m pretty sure War will win you over from the moment you’ll meet him. His life story is heartbreaking and everything he went through would you make wanna hug him and wash away the fear and pain.

The man who brought her, War, will become her everything. Her saviour, her anchor, her war and her hope. and she will become his PEACE, his love and saviour. Everything happened so quickly, she was kidnapped, raped and sold in the matter of two weeks, and now she is falling in love with the man who brought. Their relationship blossomed and grew. Even though War and Baylee made an odd match at first, they overtime shared something so special. They became each other’s everything.

The writing was captiviting, brilliant. The storyline was exciting and the three main character were complex and  so well developed. This story had many twists and turns that will keep you on your toes but also there are some scenes that will offend you, leave you disturbed and make you cringe. This is War, Baby, told for multiple POVs is a fast paced dark romance with a mixture of suspense, violence, mystery, conspiracy and erotica as Baylee journeys to uncover the truth of why she was stolen and finding her way home.

(I recommended it to all, who love dark romance.)

image1If I am being totally honest, I was scared to read this as much as I was scared to read the first book This Is War, Baby. When I fifnished TIWB I joined a group on facebook, and I spoke about all my theories for TILB, and none, and I MEAN NONE, WERE EVEN A SLIGHTEST BIT the same as the real story. Kristi torn out my heart and stepped all over it. And I really couldn’t really get over what happened in the previous book.

The rules state the pawn
is the weakest piece.
But if the pawn makes
it to the other side, it
gets promoted. The pawn
can become queen. And
then it’s not weak at all.

I can’t write much about this book without spoiling the book for people who are yet to read this book. If I start talking I will reveal  a vital plot to the story and I don’t want to wreck it for you all of you.

This delusional bastard thinks he loves me.
Love doesn’t make you kidnap someone.
Love doesn’t make you violate someone.
Love doesn’t make you murder someone.

I will just write down some quotes without revealing so much of the book. The questions you all had in Book #1 will be resolved in this book…

I tear my gaze to his. “You’re fucking sick.” His gun raises and he points it at me. “And you’re fucking dead.” Pop! Pain explodes in my chest.

“WAR!!!” That voice. Her voice. It’s my heavenly oasis although it sounds distant. I don’t want to close my eyes but they’re already shut and spiralling into darkness.

Some games he will not win because…. LOVE always wins. My LOVE will conquer all. The war has only just begun and the winner will be me.

  • This Is War, Baby

TILB  picks up right where the first book ended.  There are many challenges War and Baylee need to overcome. With both external forces and personal ‘issues’ this unconventional romance between two very different people had a lot going against them and their love. But both of them are determent to return to each other.

We find Baylee right back at the cabin in the woods again, held captive by Gabe yet again, but this time her thoughts are consumed with War’s death and her love for him, we see her fighting back more so than ever before..

I basically couldn’t put this book down. It’s a suspenseful page-turner from page one that just sucked me in. Just so you know, it’s entirely different in so many ways then the other books about captivity.. And that ending! She managed to throw a spin in there right at the very ending leaving the door open for a future book…or just to f*ck with us. I’m not sure which.

War was such a tortured hero. I attached to him in This is War, Baby and when that ending hit, I was devasted more for him than Baylee. His history, his ‘issues’ Baylee was his therapy and he just needed her. Period. He was one those heroes I attached myself too. I couldn’t stand him sufforing.

My favorite quotes:

  • My nucleus. My only reason. I can only exist fully with her. And I am nothing without her.
  • Pain threatens to rip me in two. This useless heart of mine is pounding. Thunderous. And excruciating. Now I understand how one could die of a broken heart. It’s happening to me. I’m drowning in despair.
  • Deep down in the dark depths of my heart, I wanted to believe that he’d lived.
  • The black king and white queen are the only ones left on the board that’s no longer devoid of color. It drips with the crimson blood of the defeated and we stand together.
  • He took my innocence, took my love, and who knows what else? All he gave me in exchange was heartache and pain. And the monster he created. He gave me the dragon.

Time to show them I’m not a pawn.
I’m the motherfucking queen.

This is war, baby. And I will win.

My Review
5 Stars!!

This book destroyed me. Everything was beautiful in the beginning, and then BAM! everything good down the fucking drain. I cried in 3AM while read Collared, cried so much that I woke up my sister. I thank God, that I went and requsted this book, because it was best thing I have ever done. This book is everything, heartbreak, love, lost, survival, and most of all hope that everything will turn out right.

This book show the real side of the world. It shows that there are evil people who are ready for anything. Today we see more and more children who have been found after so many years in captivity, but there are many who aren’t found, who still lost and maybe dead. As much as I don’t want to think about it, it’s there in the back of my mind. This book might not be a real story, but many people, who survived kidnapping and captivity, can relate to this story. Because this story dives so deep into the heart, and just squeezes your heart until it pops, until you can’t do anything but cry, sob and scream. I was afraid. I was scared. Those two words are the same, but those two words hold so much meaning. Someone should have warned me when I started reading this book, someone should have said something, someone should have pulled me away from this book the moment I started reading it. Because damn it hurt so much, to watch Jade go through her captivity, even though it was in flashbacks, watch her get slowly brainwashed like a poor animal in the zoo. Trying to escape from the chains that hold you and the man gloats on your weaknesses.

The baby elephant stops fighting. It learns it can’t break the chain no matter how hard it fights, so it just…It gives up trying to escape.

“Elephants don’t need to coexist with us. They don’t ask to be around us. They don’t want to. The reason they coexist with humans is because we’ve taken them from their homes and forced them into a life they’d never choose. They’re here because someone took them from their lives in Africa or Asia or they took their parents and grandparents, because some asshole decided they wanted an elephant, and why the hell not?”

Jade found herself in a elephant, while she watched the little elephant chained, she saw herself chained, she once was an elephant, chained learning to be helpless and alone. She saw herself in the elephant because the elephant was slowly being brainwashed and taught to believe that there is no way out and giving up.

“You can’t just take something because you want it. YOU CAN’T JUST FUCK WITH ITS FREEDOM THEN CHAIN IT UP AND FUCK WITH ITS HEAD TOO.”

YOU CAN’T JUST FUCK WITH ITS FREEDOM THEN CHAIN IT UP AND FUCK WITH ITS HEAD TOO. This is the sentence that stuck to me throughout the book. Because there are people who are capable doing just that. They can take away you freedom, and they can slowly take away everything you hold dear, your memories, your love, and most of all your hope. This story isn’t about love, it’s about survival. It was about moving on, and trying to live with it.

I won’t go into details, but I will tell you few thing. Jade was a normal 17-year old teenager, who had a boyfriend named Torrin, she loved him, but she lost him the day her whole life crumbled. She lost her family, her friends and she lost the person she loved the most. She was kidnapped, driven away from everyone she loved, thrust into a world she never asked for. And then she returns, but now, nothing is the same as it was before she was stolen. Everything has changed. Ten years have passed, and Jade is trying to get hold of her life. She realizes that the only person that really care about her was Torrin, who searched for her and never lost hope someday Jade will turn up.

You brought me back…when everyone else just kind of left me behind.

REVIEW | Beneath The Vine by Lillian Bryant

Title: Beneath The Vine
Author: Lillian Bryant
Genre: Contemporary Romance,
Romantic Suspense
Release Date: March 20th 2016

Selene Cavalier spent the majority of her time behind her cello. Her dull life was made up of dark notes, hard work and sheet music.

Bennett Monterosso did what he had to do to get his family’s winery up and running. He didn’t have time for his old ways. His quiet dominance had been silenced. His need was just waiting below the surface, until now.

Having her—it was all he could think about as he watched the young woman behind the cello.

Gage Calibri left his best friend, his home, and his tarnished past five years ago. He suppressed his darker tastes, his physical appetites, and his secrets until he no longer had a choice.

It only took one night for these three lives to collide and to be altered forever.

This wasn’t what they were expecting. This wasn’t who she was. Each moment they sank deeper, each minute they felt more, each second they took her further.

Unhinged… restrained… this obsession… this love… it was all consuming.

My Review
5 You’re my home Stars!

Today is the release for Beneath The Vine, and I thought I should leave a review for this amazing book. I have been obsessing over this book, for like a month or so, So when I received an ARC a week ago. I read it under one day, and all I can say, is damn. The character, the story, everything about this book was so freaking amazing.

This book needs to be savoured. Not rushed, because Beneath The Vine doesn’t deserve to be rushed. This book is everything, it takes you on a rollercoaster with so many twists and turns. The book makes you feel deep in the bones everything the characters are going through. while being emotional, it was also sexy and steamy as hell. I went through this book, with so much emotion, broken heart and grief and unexplainable pain, yet at the same time, there was love, hope and happiness. I loved it so freaking much, so thank you Lillian for bringing this perfection into my life.

Selene Cavalier
Bennett Monterosso
Gage Calibri

Bennett Monterosso saw her first. He saw her beauty and he heard the beautiful melody she was playing with her cello. He loved to take control in the boardroom, but also in the bedroom. In the bedroom he was intimate and sensual, building up the pleasure. He started to build his life on lies and with lies after that one incident that changed everything for him, and since that day he was with guilt every single day.

Gage Calibri is a man with a heart of gold. Always doing what he thinks is right. But when it came to the bedroom, he strived for control and dominance. Just so you all know I am #TEAMGAGE all the way.

That one day, that incident did something more to Bennett. It separated him from his best friend Gage. They were so close that they’d even share a woman.

Giovanna Selene Cavalier was at a very low point in life when she met Bennett. After losing her only family, she was struggling to keep her head above the water, but she had her dreams and goals to keep her going. She is a strong and brave woman, who even though she did have anything but her cello and her dreams, she made something out of herself, which is why I love her so much. She pushed through life, and survived the worst. Sometimes I wish I was her. She deserves all the happpines and love.

When she met Bennett she immediately felt drawn to him. But she also caught the eye of his best friend Gage Calibri. Gage and Bennett haven’t spoken in five years, after that incident separated them. Bennett and Gage had a history of sharing women, and so after meeting Selena, they realize that they both like her, so they fall back into their old habits. THE SEX SCENES WERE SO STEAMY AND SEXY, I felt my body burning while reading, that I had to stop, so I could get control over myself. Aside from their sexual relationship, they shared an emotional and intense relationship. I won’t go into details, that would be spoiling.
